Home made gifts are always controversial, that hand made card, the knitted scarf, the painted glass. Some people think its very crass and amateurish but I personally feel it’s the best present anyone can receive. It shows the giver has thought about you and what they think you would like, let alone planned it in advance, taken the time and trouble to make the gift and maybe personalise it for you. This is a great compliment in my book. So here are a few ideas for hand made gifts that I feel any close friend or family member would love.

A trinket box covered in pictures of the recipient. The box can be any size but often a smallish trinket box is great for storing nail vanish, stashing sweets or to collect loose change in. Just print off different sized pictures of the recipient and perhaps their family or pets, then glue them all over the box and hey presto,
a personalised gift.

If you’re handy with a sewing machine then a Tote bag could be the perfect gift for that relative who is always using plastic bags! Think about their favourite colours and designs, maybe get a picture of their pet printed onto some fabric for the front of the bag or embroider their name on the handle.

Make a cushion from old clothes. Many of us have our favourite T-shirt or dress that reminds us of the time we went to Ibiza with our besties. Well when a friend or family member is throwing them out, see if you can secretly retrieve the items and make a personalised cushion out of them.

Fill a large photo frame with memorabilia of your life with that special person. Pictures, tickets, letters and small trinkets can be glued onto a background of material or paper and put in a large photo frame. Just be aware that the person you are giving this to needs a large wall on which to display it!

Make a short video by getting family and friends of the special person to say a few words and tell stories of their great times together.
