Gardens can be places of beauty, not only because there are so many gorgeous plants and trees but because there are so many ways of decorating a garden, whether it be a small space or a large piece of ground.
Garden lights have become very popular over the last few years and can add a romantic, cosy feel to a garden. There are many ways of creating bespoke lights for your garden that can add atmosphere and mood for special occasions.
Tin can lights have a rustic feel and look great around the BBQ area. Save your tin cans, wash them and remove the labels. Make holes all over the can and either side of the top of the can to thread through a string of LED lights ensuring there are a few lights in the can to shine through the holes.
It's great to be invited to a garden party but all too often you are standing around trying to juggle a glass of something cold in one hand and a plate of delicious food in the other that you can't eat as you don’t have a third hand! If it's your party ensure there are enough occasional tables scattered around for the guests. You can pick up old tea chests cheaply which can be turned upside down, covered in wall paper to match the party theme or spray painted using stencils to write on them. Not only are they functional, they look good and can be talking point.
Planters come in many shapes and sizes to sit on the patio or on a windowsill. To jazz up a plain fence you can make planters out of small metal buckets and paint or leave plain. Once planted up, fix the bucket to the fence with hooks for the handles to sit on.
Wind chimes can sound pleasant and calming and look sensational. There are many materials that can be used to make them, from wood, string, old music discs, metal bits and pieces, beads and shells to old jewellery, keys and spoons. Just string them all together and hang from a hook on the wall or a tree branch.
